What is Midway?
Midway is an online banking company that originated from Riachuelo, one of the leading names in fast fashion in Brazil. Midway underwent a rebranding in 2021, adopting a younger and more vibrant visual identity to appeal to that audience and trying to find a niche on this market.
What was the problem?
The lack of consistency and communication within the design and development teams was the main problem here. The existing documentation was insufficient and inadequate, resulting in inconsistencies on the mobile experience . Furthermore, the developers from different squads were not effectively communicating with each other, exacerbating the problem.
How did we approach it?
To solve these issues, the team took the approach of building a comprehensive documentation system called MIDS (Midway Integrated Design System) from scratch. This documentation went beyond mere specifications and included design principles, tokens, components, standard screens, tone and voice guidelines, and new icons. The team also focused on reviewing the accessibility and feasibility of existing components. Additionally, an educational support material was created to facilitate the onboarding of new designers and developers, ensuring they could quickly learn and utilize the MIDS framework.
